For most of the day, I’ve been thinking about the D-Day Landings in Normandy, which took place 75 years ago on this day, June 6th. When I stand by the military graves in our local cemetery, I see the names of soldiers and sailors – some as young as 17.
The photograph below is of my father. He was in the Royal Air Force and he often spoke about the younger brother he lost at Normandy. He made the trip to visit his grave in France as often as he could.
It is a poignant day, thinking of all those young people who died so young and the families left behind to mourn for them.
I thank God for these brave men and all those who lost their lives and didn’t come home. It’s because of them that we get to enjoy the peace and freedom that we have today. Amen.
